Looking for a way to enliven your skin without cosmetic surgery? For many, cosmetic injectables trigger healthy interest. However, worries about developing a manufactured look keep some at a safe distance. In actuality, a variety of dermal fillers are on the market that specifically aim for the natural approach to rejuvenation. Enter Restylane. Weigh the facts against the misconceptions and determine if Restylane is right for you.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a non-invasive dermal filler, composed of a gel containing hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring biological component. There are other hyaluronic acid fillers, but the difference with Restylane is that it’s generated in a laboratory, rather than animal derived.

Restylane injections can liven up facial features by diminishing wrinkles, laugh lines and crow’s feet. It also plumps and moisturizes the skin, creating a supple, more youthful glow. Restylane can also be a treatment for adding fullness to the lips.

Treatment usually lasts about six months and requires follow up procedures to maintain results. Many patients choose to combine Restylane with other cosmetic surgery procedures. Consider adding cosmetic laser surgery with Restylane to treat acne scars and sun damage.

Common Misconceptions About Restylane: Are Injections Painful?

Restylane treatment consists purely of a few injections to targeted facial areas. Many patients describe the injections as pain equivalent to a pinch. The procedure takes about ten minutes, after which patients can resume normal activities.

Since Restylane is not derived from animals, the procedure has less potential complications than some other dermal fillers. Common side effects are redness and swelling. Symptoms should subside within a couple of days.

Common Misconceptions About Cosmetic Injections

Treat cosmetic injections the way you would cosmetic plastic surgery — see a professional. Restylane may be quick and seem effortless, but there is a surgical science to it. An experienced cosmetic surgeon can administer the treatment properly.

Restylane Injections: Temporary Benefits

Some question the validity of cosmetic procedures that require periodic touch-ups. Restylane is temporary, but does have some longevity. After successive treatments, results tend to last much longer. Another thing to consider is that no cosmetic procedure can stop the aging process.

Common Misconceptions About Restylane: Dermal Fillers are Too Expensive

On the contrary, dermal fillers are relatively inexpensive. Restylane generally costs about $500. The actual cost depends on the number of areas to be treated, geographic location and expertise of the surgeon. However, compared to the alternatives, Restylane is quite affordable. Consider that facial plastic surgery costs thousands.

Consult With Your Doctor About Restylane

Schedule a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon to determine if Restylane is right for you. An experienced cosmetic surgeon is board certified by an accredited organization, such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Visit DocShop.com for help finding a qualified surgeon.

Not an office hour session passes in my practice that I am not asked about laser surgery. Due to widespread media coverage, lasers are now thought of by many people as the best way for surgeons to cut tissue during surgery. Unfortunately, this is a misconception. For most operations, traditional cutting methods provide better control for the surgeon and more precise and smaller scars.

Okay, here are several questions women asks regarding plastic surgery.

Will it hurt?

During the procedure, you’re comfortable and feel no pain. After surgery, pain and discomfort can usually be controlled with medication and subsides in a matter of days.

How soon can I get back to work?

It depends on the procedure and your job. Most plastic surgery patients are back to work in 7 to 10 days.

Will everyone know?

Usually not. Good plastic surgery doesn’t leave you looking plastic. It enhances your looks naturally, the improvement is often attributed to a vacation, new diet, or exercise regime.

How long will it last?

Rejuvenation procedures can’t stop the clock, but they can rest it. The benefits from a facelift, forehead lift, facial peel, and eyelid surgery can last 5 to 15 years. Alteration procedures that reshape or correct an imbalance such as surgery of the nose, chin augmentation, breast augmentation, and breast reduction offer permanent benefits that last a life time.

Will there be scars?

Yes. Will they be noticeable? Probably not. Plastic surgeons make every effort to minimize scars and hide them in natural lines and creases. For the majority of procedures, scars fade over time, becoming barely noticeable.

How long does it take?

Not as long as you would think. Most procedures are performed as an outpatient, require no overnight stay, and take only a few hours.

Is it expensive?

Not really. Unlike most things, the prices of plastic surgery have gone down over the years while the quality has gone up. In fact, almost half of the people undergoing plastic surgery make less than $25,000 a year.

Will insurance cover it?

Usually not. But there are occasionally exceptions when a procedure is medically necessary. Often this involves coverage for a portion of the expenses.

Can I finance it?

In most cases, yes. Financing is now a readily available accepted form of payment. Low monthly payments virtually make every procedure instantly affordable.

What do I do next?

A consultation with a qualified surgeon is a quick, easy, no obligation way to find out what plastic surgery can do for you.
